Il Sogno Mio

16" x 16" x 5"

Italian travertine

18k gold leaf

2018

“My Dream” horse and rider carved travertine sculpture with applied 18k gold leaf.  This piece is symbolic of my connection to horses and the journey of life.

Il Ponte Vecchio

22" x 21" x 6"

Italian travertine noci

This horse sculpture on a bridge is a symbol of a passage or  journey.  This series is inspired by riding by horseback in Italy and Ireland on many of the old trails traveled by pelligrini.  Many people made these pilgrimages  mostly on foot, throughout Europe  for a spiritual awakening of the soul.

Horse Tower bronze

8" x 3" x 2"

bronze 2013

These studies in clay were bronzed as miniatures of larger pieces I carved in travertine.  (insert page)

Towers are a common architectural element in Italy.  They date back centuries in cities and villages where they were used to protect from invaders or to ring bells on church towers to summon the worshipers.  These pieces were my attempt to use an architectural form for the base of the sculpture and invent something other than a flat base.

Bison vertebrae discs

3" x 2" x 1/2" each

bronze

2013

Each one of these pieces is a cast of a disc from the bison back vertebrae.  A beautiful textured element in itself, as a grouping gives a monumental idea.

Peace Warriors

5" x 3" x 3"

bronze, terra cotta, steel

2013

Inspired by the Tang Dynasty terra cotta sculptures of women on horseback this series represents my idea of using the Arts to implement international peace.

Instead of guns and weapons, the women play musical instruments.

Equipeans

21"x 5" x 5"

terra cotta, terra sigillata   fired to cone 04

This series of Equipeans began on a day looking out the window of my studio at the horses on a snow covered pasture.  These figures emerged from a playful approach to the clay  from my subconscious mind and represent the relationship between human and horse.
