Bison Thoracic Vertebrae

24" x 4" x 4"each

bronze

2013

These bronzes were cast from the thoracic vertebrae bones that form the hump of the American Bison.  They were bones  from a bison bull who was the head of a small herd on our ranch.   I spread the bones in the fields for four years and let the coyotes and critters clean them.  Then after making molds,  they were cast in bronze.  The spread is mounted on the wall with individual hooks that balance the bronze just enough away from the wall to create a shadow.  Or, they are seen laying down sitting on a another piece of vertebrae also cast bronze.
