Figure Sculpture Workshop

McArdle will draw on the experience of connection to mind/body to prepare students to experience her spontaneous approach to sculpting in a subtractive method. Based on human emotion, and the human figure, she will demonstrate how to create gesture studies with movement, harmony and grace.  This process also is a form of meditation and will help clear the mind of any preconceived ideas or inhibitions about creating figurative sculpture.  Students will explore creating gestural expressions with terracotta and learn a variety of skills including mixing colored slips and explore various ways to apply terra sigillata, finishing pieces after they are fired, and creating bases for presentation.

Class and Workshops take place at McArdle’s sculpture studio on a horse ranch in rural Boulder, CO where students will work inside and outside to create individual spaces and social distancing.

Level: Beginner to advanced. No prior experience in clay needed.
